A Walk, A Treatment, and A Good bye to Sydney

Tuesday, October 10

Today we spend our last day in Sydney. Tomorrow is a travel day as we fly to Auckland, New Zealand.

Since today is a treatment day, we limited our walk to the general neighborhood of the hotel.  We walked over to Hyde Park, which we last visited on arrival day almost a week ago. We walked past the famous, at least for Sydney, Archibald Fountain.

We then walked over to the Sydney Barracks, the place which housed many of the original Europeans who were lured by promises of a better life than those they left behind in England, Ireland and Scotland.  (Many of these original British subjects were convicts, although many of their offenses would not be considered criminal today.)  You could sense the deprivation most endured walking around the building which is now surrounded by one of the wealthiest parts of Sydney.

We went to lunch today in Lindfield, location of the dialysis center.  I finished the session, said my heartfelt thank you and good byes, and rushed back to the CBD for dinner and mid-trip packing for our flight the next morning.  Because there is a two hour (later) time change between Sydney and Auckland, there will be no post for Wednesday unless something unexpectedly noteworthy occurs.  See you Thursday!

Until then, a few more pictures of native animals.

A hand raised kangaroo joey. Don’t try this when they’re full grown.

A wombat, cute and cuddly when young, but not as friendly as it grows to adulthood. This guy will be released into the wild when mature enough.
